Deepavali Celebration Wed Oct 22, Fri Oct 24 and Sat Oct 25




Please note Chinmaya Saraswati Ashram is closed on Thursday, October 23rd evening due to solar eclipse

Diwali is celebrated at Chinmaya Saraswati Ashram on Wednesday, October 22nd, Friday ct 24th and Saturday October 25th, 2014.
1. Please bring kumkum, few coins, flowers and a picture or idol of Lakshmi to conduct dhanalakshmi puja on Wednesday October 22nd at 7PM .
2. Annakut is celebrated on Friday, October 24th. If you are interested in bringing any grocery items to offer to Goddess Saraswati, please check with priest for list of groceries one can offer.
3. On Saturday, October 25th, join us to celebrate Bhai Dhuj followed by fire works.

The first day of Diwali: Dhanteras October 21st The first day of Diwali is called Dhanvantari Triodasi also called Dhan Theras. On this day, goddess Lakshmi and Ganesha are worshipped together.  At sunset a lighted deeya with Prasad is offered to Yama Raj, the Lord of Death with a prayer for protection from untimely death. This offering is made near a Tulsi tree,

The second day of Diwali: Choti Diwali and The third day of Diwali: Lakshmi Puja October 22nd The second day of diwali is called Naraka Chaturdasi. On this day Lord Krishna destroyed the demon Narakasur and made the world free from fear. The third day of Diwali:  The divine Goddess Lakshmi  is worshipped to achieve the blessings of wealth and prosperity, the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. This year the second and third day of diwali will be celebrated on second day, October 22nd due to solar eclipse on October 23rd. 

Solar Eclipse October 23rd  from 5.50 PM to 7.40 PM.  Saraswati temple will be closed on Thursday October 23rd in the evening due to solar eclipse.  The temple will open on Friday at 7AM. 
The fourth day of Diwali: Govardhan Puja October 24th Govardhan Puja, also called Annakut (meaning a heap of food), is celebrated as on this day Krishna defeated Indra. **Please check with priest for list of groceries one can offer to goddess Saraswati. 
The fifth day of Diwali: Bhai Duj October 25th The fifth day of the Diwali is called Bhai Dhuj.  The essence of the Bhai dhuj festival is to celebrated the love between brothers and sisters. This is a special event for Chinmaya families.
